Decorating with Room Dividers

Room dividers can be a form of decoration, a functional way to separate spaces, or both. There are different forms of room dividers that can be used, depending on the need. For instance, an individual wanting to partially separate a room may use a permanent or half width room divider, decorated with shelves on one side for functionality. With the many ways to use room dividers it can be hard to choose which type to use, so, it might be wise to have knowledge on the different types of room dividers to better know what will best fit the space the room dividers are to be used in. Room dividers can be broken down into three basic categories: permanent room dividers, improvised room dividers, and flexible dividers.

A permanent room divider can be something like a half width or half height wall. This means that the divider can come out half way across the floor or halfway up a wall. A wall could have shelves on one side or just be decorated to match the rest of the room. Then there are improvised room dividers, this could be shelves, a large piece of furniture or even plants used to separate spaces. Last, but not least, there are flexible room dividers. This includes screens and partitions, which are dividers that slide into the wall so as to optimize space or privacy when needed.

Each type of room divider serves the purpose of decorating and separating spaces, it really comes down to if the individual would like the option of moving the room divider around. There are many types of flexible room dividers and probably one of the more popular types is a Japanese or Asian inspired screen. These screens are usually made of thick fabrics with different types of designs. These dividers can be used to disguise a corner, separate a room, or used as a place to change clothes.

One way to divide a room with a Japanese room divider is to purchase two of them and situate them across from each other, leaving a space in between to walk through. Also, Japanese room dividers and/or screens allow some light to come through the screen, making the space with in the screen warm and inviting. Room dividers are a great way, sometimes very inexpensive, way to decorate and create personal spaces with in a room. Room dividers can come in a variety of fashions to suit any persons decorating tastes.

There is an option of wrought iron, wooden, panel, iron and cloth, and many other types of room dividers. These room dividers can be painted or plain, have a geometric design of metal shapes, or come in just about any way that a person would want. A room divider is a form of decoration that can be used to make personal spaces, to cover windows, or just add a touch of privacy to a space. Room dividers are both decorative and functional and can be as unique as the person using them.
